Dr. Rishi Jay Gupta, DDS, MD, MBA, FACS
Dr. Rishi Jay Gupta is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon and a native of Walnut Creek, California. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Molecular and Cell Biology. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the University of California, San Francisco, concurrently with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of San Francisco. He went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine (MD) at the University of California, Davis.
Dr. Gupta completed his residency training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at UCSF and pursued a dedicated fellowship in Sleep Surgery through the California Sleep Institute and Stanford University. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and holds licensure to practice both medicine and dentistry, including certification in general anesthesia.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Gupta is deeply engaged in research, education, and professional leadership. He serves as Section Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Health Care System, as an Associate Professor at UCSF, and as a Clinical Instructor at the University of the Pacific. He is also on staff at California Pacific Medical Center, where he performs a broad scope of surgical procedures. His scholarly work has been widely published in peer-reviewed journals, and he has authored multiple textbook chapters on temporomandibular joint reconstruction, sleep apnea surgery, orthognathic surgery, and facial pain.
Dr. Gupta’s clinical interests include the surgical management of sleep-disordered breathing, temporomandibular joint disorders, dentofacial deformities, facial pain, oral pathology, dental implant reconstruction, and wisdom tooth removal. He is actively involved in various professional organizations and currently serves as President-Elect of the San Francisco Dental Society, in addition to participating on committees within the California Dental Association and UCSF.
Dr. Gupta resides in San Francisco and enjoys spending time with his wife and two young children. He loves being part of the San Francisco community and values exploring the city’s vibrant neighborhoods, supporting community organizations, and participating in activities that strengthen connections with patients and colleagues alike.
